Common Diseases

Acne Information

A first treatment option is to apply an antiseptic solution to a zit and the surrounding skin as soon as it appears. and often the infection will heal without developing into a full blown zit. Essential oils like lavender have natural antibiotic properties and there are many other non-prescription acne lotions and creams which can also stop acne in the developmental stage.

Blackheads
A natural antiseptic cream or oil will often stop a blackhead and prevent further development.
A blackhead can be squeezed out, to yield a mix of pus and blood. At this time the infected area is hardened and squeezing can cause other tissue damage making the whole thing worse.

Whiteheads
A common solution is to allow a zit to develop into a whitehead and then squeeze out the contents. Providing the tissue around the zit is not damaged a small scar will form and in most healthy people should be gone after 2-3 days without leaving any trace. It is also helpful to use a natural antiseptic solution after squeezing to help the healing process.

If the inflammation is deep and severe, it may be better to treat with an antibacterial solution or let the infection run it's course or. Care must be taken as sometimes if the spot is manipulated or squeezed, the pus can burst into or under the skin rather than onto the surface which can result in scarring and cyst formation.

If your acne are serious or persists for long periods, it is advised to see your naturopath who can help balance your metabolism, diet and lifestyle. A doctor or dermatologist has a range of options from prescribing antibiotics to injecting cortisone directly into the bumps to help them go away. Your physician may also open pimples and remove blackheads and whiteheads.

Antibiotics taken by mouth such as tetracycline, doxycycline, minocycline or erythromycin are often prescribed for moderate or severe cases, especially when there is a lot of acne on the back or chest and antibiotics reduce the numbers of bacteria in the follicle. Oral antibiotics are known to have unpleasant side effects. If this occurs, discontinue your medicine and contact your doctor or dermatologist. It is also believed that antibiotics weaken your immune system making you more susceptible to other infections.

Colloidal Silver Cream has been found by many to be an effective product to help combat acne, see Colloidal Silver Cream

If your acne is suspected to be caused by a hormonal imbalance, in that it occurs for an abnormally long time or is unusually severe, seeing a natural medicine doctor can help to balance hormonal function.

For Scarring, a natural course of treatment is to massage scars with natural Rosehip Oil.

Other treatment of acne scarring as with other scarring and stretch marks is difficult. Dermatologists can treat these scars by skin resurfacing with laser, dermabrasion, chemical peeling or electrosurgery and can flatten depressed scars. Soft tissue elevation with collagen, filling products or fat can elevate scars. Scar revision by your dermatologic surgeon with a microexcision and punch grafting can correct pitted scars, and combinations of these dermatologic surgical treatments can make noticeable differences on the appearance of the scars although being human beings can also make grave errors leaving scars much worse than before.
