Diet > Perricone Diet
By Reporter, Amanda Lennon
Is there a
face-lift in your fridge or is it full of the stuff that wrinkles
are made of?
Both
Kim Cattrall and Julia Roberts place the credit for
their glowing skin and slender figures at the feet of
US skincare guru Dr Nicholas Perricone. His
anti-wrinkle diet is touted as the next
big thing, and for once I see merit in this
particular fad.
Nutritional
therapy is great - but then I would say that wouldnt
I? It can help alleviate all manner of symptoms and
unsuitable dietary choices have been shown to play a
major part in many illnesses. I routinely treat
everything from arthritis and IBS to migraine and
sinusitis, but did you know that nutritional therapy
can also be fun? Not only can it lift your
spirits but it can also rid you of your wrinkles!
The diet is based upon evidence
that certain foods can cause inflammation and water
retention. Obviously by cutting out the culprits
(mainly refined sugar and saturated fats) the plan
hopes to rid you of your wrinkles, enhance your
metabolism and aid weight loss. The premise
that some foods cause inflammation is not new.
For years Nutritionists have been advising arthritis
sufferers to avoid acid-forming foods and migraine
sufferers to cut out the caffeine and tyramine.
However, Perricone believes that a diet of pizza,
chips and cola will not only lead to obesity but also
make you old before your time.
If youre in any doubt then why not
give this quick hit Three Day Nutritional Face Life a
try.
Wake Up
- 812oz still mineral water
Breakfast
- 4-6oz piece of grilled or poached salmon
- ½ cup organic oats made with water not milk
- 3 slice of cantaloupe melon and ¼ cup fresh berries
- 8-12oz still mineral water
Lunch
- 6-8oz grilled or poached salmon or tinned sardines in olive oil
- 2 cups romaine lettuce with 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil & lemon juice
- 3 slice of cantaloupe melon and ¼ cup fresh berries
- 8-12oz still mineral water
Mid-afternoon snack
- 2oz sliced chicken breast (home cooked not prepacked)
- 4 raw hazelnuts
- ½ green apple
- 8-12oz mineral water
Dinner
- 6-8oz grilled or poached salmon
- 2 cups romaine lettuce with 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil & lemon juice
- 3 slice of cantaloupe melon and ¼ cup fresh berries
- 8-12oz still mineral water
Before Bed
- 2oz sliced chicken breast (home cooked not prepacked)
- 4 raw hazelnuts
- ½ green apple
- 8-12oz mineral water
Whilst this may sound a rather boring
menu for three days the results are quite remarkable
give it a try. The only things to
remember are that the water stated is the minimum
requirement and you should have more if you can
manage it and that the salmon should be wild where
possible but certainly organic. The latter part
shouldnt be as much of a problem out there
surely?! The reason is of course to avoid all
the antibiotics and other chemicals farmed salmon now
contain.
And finally, when youve
seen the results of the three day hit and want to
continue youll be pleased to know that the 28
day programme is a lot more varied! For full
details check out The Perricone Prescription by Dr
Nicholas Perricone which can be found at your local book store.
